Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso was delighted to score a brace against Tottenham and secure a much-needed Premier League victory for his side on Sunday.
The Spaniard opened the scoring for the defending champions in the 24th minute with a curling free-kick into the top corner, and after an own-goal levelled matters, he sneaked in a winner in the 88th minute.
Alonso admitted the Blues needed the win after the disappointment of their 3-2 defeat to Burnley on the opening weekend, and praised the team's cohesion after getting past Spurs at Wembley.
"We needed a win after a bad start last week," the 26-year-old left-back told the club's official website.
"We knew it was going to be a tough game but we knew how to suffer as well and we stuck together throughout the whole game and we got the reward in the end."
Commenting on his second goal, Alonso added: "I was not expecting Pedro's ball to be honest but as soon as I saw it coming, I knew I was going to try to shoot, and I was a bit lucky when it went underneath the goalkeeper to make it 2-1."
