Bayern Munich and Germany national team star Mats Hummels has joined Man United’s Juan Mata in donating 1% of his Bayern wage each week to charity.
The pair will donate the 1% of their wages to a worldwide charity that supports global football events and initiative for children.
The charity called Common Goal is run by a Berlin-based group called streetfootballworld and will be delighted with how Mata and Hummels have responded.
Manchester United’s Spanish midfielder was given praise 10 days ago when he pledged a piece of his wage to the charity.
That was not enough for Mata though, who encouraged several other footballers to come forward and help this incredible cause.
Juan Mata then revealed how happy he was to receive a call from none other than one of the greatest defenders in world football in Hummels.
"I don’t actually know Mats personally, so I was pleasantly surprised when he contacted me to talk Common Goal,” he explained.
"He really gets what we’re trying to achieve and is the perfect teammate to have on board at this early stage.”
Hummels, commenting on his pledge, explained that they are looking to “build a bridge between football and its social impact around the world.”
Mats also called for even more of his colleagues to get involved.
"I’m putting the call out to all my fellow footballers: join Juan and me and help to take the game to the next level.”
Mata gets the ball rolling
