Harry Kane responds after Antonio Conte describes him as his ideal striker

Tottenham striker Harry Kane says he isn't paying too much attention to Antonio Conte's recent comments which described him as the ideal striker.

Conte, to the surprise of many, was openly full of praise for the Spurs forward during the Blues' recent tour of Singapore.

When he was asked to name his favourite striker, Conte replied: "For me, Kane, now, is one of the best strikers in the world. If I had to buy one striker I would go to Kane. He is a complete striker."

The Spurs forward was himself quick to downplay Conte's praise, admitting the words from the Chelsea boss were 'kind' but he is more focused on what Maurico Pochettino thinks about him.

He told The Sun: "Obviously it's kind words.

"But I'm focused on my team now and what my manager thinks.

The England international took the Premier League's Golden Boot last season with 29 goals in just 30 appearances, taking his overall tally in the top flight to an impressive 78 goals from 116 appearances.

Morata didn't want to play second fiddle to Harry Kane

Spurs manager Pochettino recently confirmed he once tried to sign Morata, only for star striker Kane to inadvertently get in the way of a deal.

The Spaniard, who joined Chelsea this summer in a deal worth £58 million, gave an interview earlier this year in which he claimed to have held talks with the Spurs boss prior to his Real Madrid return in 2016. The Spanish giants had triggered their buy-back option to sign him from Juventus for €30m (around £27m).

The 24-year-old would struggle for game time back at his boyhood club but did score 15 La Liga goals, the second most in Zinedine Zidane's title-winning squad. A dissatisfaction with game time led him to become the second summer signing of Premier League champions Chelsea while Spurs, by contrast, are yet to bring in any new players.
