Arsenal star Hector Bellerin struggled last season
Bellerin was the Gunners' first choice right-back before struggling with form and fitness last season.
The Spanish defender, 22, ended up being taken out of the firing line by Arsene Wenger.
And the Arsenal boss then opted for a three-man defence which saw Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain favoured at wing-back.
Wenger is expected to continue with the new system for next season and the Spanish defender said: "This season is about holding my spot.
"I had a tough spell where I had a few injuries and there was a change of system.
"It was hard being on the sidelines. It was a new situation for me. But that’s football. You need to adapt."
Arsenal are looking to offload Calum Chambers and Carl Jenkinson - two defenders who provide direct competition to Bellerin.
But you won’t find Bellerin resting on his laurels, whether the Englishmen stay or go.
He added: "To have competition is good for you. It pushes you to improve.
"I need to train 100 per cent and show the manager I’m the right player to play."
