Messi donates food and drink left over from his wedding to charity

The wedding between Lionel Messi and Antonella Roccuzzo saw countless celebrities, family members and friends jet in to Rosario, Argentina, from around the world, yet there was still plenty of food and drink left over by the end of the celebrations.

Rather than let it go to waste, the footballer has donated the leftovers to charity via the Rosario Food Bank.

"It all arrived to the store and we're controlling it," the organisation's director Pablo Algrain told Efe.

"We don't yet know quite how much there is."

The food bank is not, however, able to accept everything due to some of its rules regarding alcohol.

"We explained to the wedding organisers that we can accept soft drinks and snacks, but that we'd have to change alcoholic drinks for money because we cannot accept them," Algrain added.

As such, the charity will look to exchange the liquor for cash by liaising with local bars.
