Atletico Madrid are set to make an offer of £26 million for Diego Costa as they prepare to re-sign the striker from Chelsea.
The Spanish club are banned from signing players in this transfer window but are determined to strike a deal that would see Costa return in January, as reported by the Mirror.
Costa is likely to leave Chelsea this summer after being informed by manager Antonio Conte that he isn't part of his plans for next season.
However, Atletico are attempting to convince Chelsea to keep Costa until January on the proviso that he is left out of the Blues' Champions League squad for the first half of the campaign to prevent him from being cup tied.
Atletico's proposed bid for Costa is set to contain several performance related add-ons that would effectively enable Chelsea to recoup the £32 million that they paid for him three years ago.
Costa enjoyed success at Atletico and was part of the team that won La Liga in 2014. Since then he has won two Premier League titles and the League Cup with Chelsea.
