MANCHESTER UNITED: Ryan Giggs reportedly didn't pay up his golf game entry fee

The Manchester United legend – worth an estimated £40 million – is said to have had his results thrown out of a golf tournament after not coughing up £5.

Pals said Giggs and a friend were meant to be a fiver in cash on the day but went ahead and played anyway without handing over the dosh.

When the results were published online Giggs was ranked 144th with a DQ by his name and the message “no comp fee paid”, reports the Mirror.

Amused golf pals admit it was “just a mistake” but said they got a “giggle” over the mishap which the club admitted was a "regular issue" among players.

Giggsy had been playing at the Worsley Golf Club – a £950 a year venue in Eccles, Greater Manchester – where he has been a member for years.

The 43-year-old is said to be a well liked golfer at the club but another player said “rules are rules

After the misunderstanding, the club reportedly sent round an email saying : "Can I please remind all members that to enter any competition you need to pay the required amount in cash the day before.

"I have been informed that this is becoming a regular issue with a number of members not having enough cash with them.”

A player said: "It caused a bit of a giggle in the clubhouse. Ryan’s got a few bob in the bank so it has made us laugh.

"He’s a popular lad around the club but rules are rules.”

They added: "It put a smile on people’s faces seeing him at the bottom of the leader board and I’m sure he’ll see the funny side."
