Manchester United have confirmed their agreement to sign Benfica defender Victor Lindelof

United boss Jose Mourinho has been a fan of the Sweden international for several months and came close to signing him in January.

The Red Devils have made adding a new centre-back to their ranks a top priority this summer and it seems they’ve already got their man.

And it’s Lindelof who is heading to Old Trafford this summer.

In a statement, United said: “Manchester United is pleased to announce that it has reached agreement with Benfica for the transfer of Victor Lindelof, subject to a medical examination, international clearance and personal terms.

“A further announcement will be made once the transfer is complete.”

It is understood that United have agreed to sign Lindelof for £30.75m.

He will become the first signing of the summer for Mourinho and co.

United secured Champions League football last season as well as winning the Europa League, EFL Cup and Community Shield.

They have quickly turned their attention to securing reinforcements with Lindelof expected to be the first of five main signings this summer.

Lindelof made 46 appearances for Benfica last season, helping them to a league and cup double in Portugal.

The 22-year-old has already earned 12 international caps for Sweden and is regarded as one of the most promising central defenders in the world.

He joined Benfica in 2012 and claimed seven major honours with the club.
