Manchester City star Yaya Toure has signed a one-year contract extension

Toure was set to become a free agent and had offers from home and abroad, but has decided to stay at the Etihad instead.

The news completes a remarkable turnaround for the Ivorian midfielder, who spent the first few months of the season in exile following a bust-up with Pep Guardiola.

The City boss axed him from his squad and told him he wouldn't be considered again until his agent Dimitri Seluk apologised for criticising the Spaniard.

Toure apologised on his behalf in November and the former Barcelona star was welcomed back into the fold.

Now he has pledged his immediate future to Manchester City and is on a mission to help them win more silverware.

Toure said: "I'm delighted. I told myself the journey at City was not done and when I received a call from Txiki (Begiristain) and talked to the manager, I was very delighted.

"The fans have contributed a lot - I have been sent a lot of messages. Thank you to the chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Sheikh Mansour and the manager as well.

"He has trusted me a lot and made me believe. When I first came here (in 2010) I was trying to be part of a new story, of something special at this club.

"I am very lucky now to be part of a great club with great players around me who are helping me to achieve my targets.

"Of course I want to win trophies, that is very important to me. I want to enjoy it at this age still and remaining here is a massive, massive thing.

"It is a great club, going in the right direction with new players who are coming in. Our mentality is always to win week in and week out.

"The way the club is set out, the fans and the people who work for this club have to expect a lot from the players, to bring trophies and make this club become the most important one in the world.

"I'm very delighted to continue to be part of this family."
