REAL MADRID are stalling on a deal to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea this summer as the goalkeeper threatens to pull the plug on the deal, according to reports in Spain.

Manchester United managed to fend off interest from Real Madrid to keep the Spain international two years ago.

In a saga that dominated the summer, a faulty fax machine ended up being the decisive factor with David De Gea going on to sign a contract extension with the club.

A war of words between both teams then ensued with United and Real both blaming the other for the failed transfer deal.

In the time since, Real have achieved domestic and European success with Keylor Navas between the sticks.

However, their interest in De Gea has continued and the newly crowned La Liga champions are set to launch a bid to prise him away from Old Trafford two years after their first attempts failed.

Yet, despite this, Spanish outlet Don Balon claims the deal has hit a bump.

It is said that, though Real want to sign De Gea, Navas' resurgence and impressive form means they are unsure what to do with him.

De Gea wants the deal to go through quickly but, with the club facing Juventus in the Champions League final on June 3, they are unlikely to sign him before then.

He is unwilling to make the move to the Bernabeu if he feels Navas will still be guaranteed game time in some capacity.

The report adds that the Spain international may even end up staying at United if he feels Madrid do not act quickly enough to secure his signature.

United boss Jose Mourinho said earlier this month that the Red Devils would do everything to stop the 26-year-old quitting Old Trafford.

"David? I think the first match against LA Galaxy in pre-season in Los Angeles," Mourinho told Sky Sports.

"I hope to play Joel Pereira against Crystal Palace, I hope to play Sergio in the final and hopefully we don't have problems with these two keepers.

"And David is top of the world and we want to keep top of the world."
