Mesut Ozil thinks Arsenal are suffering from a lack of confidence

The Gunners have lost four of their last five in the League and also crashed out of Europe.

The German midfielder said: “We have a difficult phase. Somehow it does not work with the team. We collect a lot of goals, maybe it’s self-confidence.

"When I see the quality at Arsenal though, I am firmly convinced that we will get on a run again soon.”

Boss Arsene Wenger revealed this week how all contract talks with Ozil and Alexis Sanchez had been put on hold until the end of the season.

And the German midfielder, who is set to make his comeback in Germany’s World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan tomorrow, insists he has no problem with that.

Ozil said: “The fact is I’ve still got a contract in London. To speculate now would be wrong.

"At the end of the season we will see, there will be talks. I’m very happy at Arsenal and in London.”

He also admits he has no idea whether Wenger is staying or going as the Gunners bid to get their season back on track after six defeats in nine games.

Ozil added: “I don’t know what he will decide. That’s something we will have to wait for.

But the insists he is ready to return this weekend ahead of Arsenal’s crunch clash with Manchester City at the Emirates on April 2.

Ozil said: “It looks good for Sunday. I tweaked a muscle in the thigh and the calf. On Thursday I was able to train again with a few other players. I have no complaints.”

Germany, who beat England 1-0 on Wednesday, are unbeaten since the Euros, winning six out of seven games, and have yet to concede a goal, so few are predicting an upset in Baku.

The 28-year-old said: “Our goal must be to simply carry out our game plan. We have enough quality to win the game.

"We will not under-estimate Azerbaijan. They will want to stay in the game against the world champions.

"With seven points, they still have a chance to qualify for the World Cup. They will definitely give 200 per cent.”
