Milinkovic-Savic breaks the deadlock on 40 minutes
Parolo adds a second for minutes later
Schick pulls a goal back in the 89th minute

Match summary:

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic opened the scoring on 40 minutes before Marco Parolo added a second a minute before half-time, with Patrik Schick netting what proved to be a late consolation goal, after 89 minutes.

Full report:

Lazio were quickest out of the blocks with Milinkovic-Savic testing Christian Puggioni with a good ball into the area that the goalkeeper managed to hold on to.

Federico Marchetti though pulled off an excellent save after just nine minutes to deny Karol Linetty from handing Sampdoria an early lead, with a powerful shot from the edge of the box.

Both sides were starting to threaten with aerial balls as Puggioni came out well to keep out a Ciro Immobile effort from a Felipe Anderson delivery.

Next it was Marchetti's turn to makes a good save after Bruno Fernandes made his way into the box before firing goalward.

Milinkovic-Savic though was on hand to head home an Anderson cross beyond the despairing Puggioni five mutes before the break.

Puggioni kept his side in the game with a sensational save to deny Immobile but he could do nothing to stop Parolo from adding a second four minutes later as he reacted quickest to get on the end of another good Anderson delivery.

Puggioni did well to deny Anderson with a powerful shot from the edge of the box on 52 minutes, while Schick started to cause problems for the Lazio defence with his direct running before Immobile wasted another good chance to score after powering into the box.

Matias Silvestre headed over the crossbar before Dennis Praet fired just wide of the target.

Immobile was again guilty of wasting a chance to extend his side's lead with 71 minutes played with a shot he failed to keep on target after another industrious run.

And the misses came in thick and fast as Fabio Quagliarella was next to miss an opportunity to score, following a free-kick into the Lazio box.

Lucas Torreira fired wide late on as Marchetti denied Quagliarella from the edge of the area before the same player headed well off target in the dying minutes.

But Sampdoria were finally rewarded with a goal, in the 89th minute, as Schick drifted past a number of defenders before firing inside the right post.

With the game drawing its last breathes, Lazio sat deep in defence and ensured they took home all three points.

Lazio moved into fourth place with 31 points, five points off leaders Juventus, with Sampdoria in ninth place with 22 points.

In the other Serie A match on Saturday, Crotone defeated Pescara 2-1 to move above their struggling opposition in 18th place with nine points form 16 games, leaving Pescara in 19th place with eight points.

Hugo Campagnaro thought he had rescued a point for Pescara when he cancelled out Raffaele Palladino's 24th minute penalty with his goal in the 82 minute.

He had hoped to spare the blushes of Ledian Memushaj, who had missed a 44th minute penalty.

But Gianmarco Ferrari scored the winner a minute later, after Alberto Aquilani had been dismissed in the 73rd minute for a second yellow card ahead of Leonardo Capezzi's 80th minute dismissal, also for two bookings.
