Manager Arsene Wenger was forced to field questions about the future of the the two superstars, who are both out of contract in summer 2018, after rumours surfaced linking Sanchez with a possible move to Chelsea.

When asked of his chances of keeping the pair, Wenger responded: "It depends what you call the long-term. Eighteen months is quite long in football.

"These players have 18 months contracts. No matter what happens they will stay 18 months and we hope longer.

"At some stage you will accept negotiations are private and secret. We're professional and work until the last day of our contracts."

"Alexis Sanchez's performance at the weekend was phenomenal," he told Gabby Logan on The Premier League Show.

"I really think he's put himself in that bracket - just behind Messi and Ronaldo."
