Southgate confirms Jordan Henderson will captain England against Spain

England head coach Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Jordan Henderson will captain the Three Lions once again tomorrow night against Spain.
Henderson captained England during the last international break as they drew 0-0 against Slovenia with Wayne Rooney dropped to the bench.
With Rooney missing first-team training at Enfield today, he is expected to miss tomorrow night’s match at Wembley against Spain – or at the very least start on the bench.
Southgate has now confirmed that, in his absence, Henderson will start as captain for the second time in his career.
"I wouldn’t start Wayne in this game anyway. Jordan Henderson will be captain,” Southgate said in his pre-match press conference.
"The key for me is I believe we have several leaders including one next to me (Joe Hart) and I don’t think we can have just one captain too much responsibility has been on Wayne, we need to share that. Once you have a team of those leaders you can have a lot of success.
"Jack is getting to the peak level physically so the opp for him to be back in with the squad was the first step and he will obviously be looking to get into the game.”
Henderson became Liverpool’s first-team captain last summer following Steven Gerrard’s departure from the club and now he’s on the path to becoming England skipper too.
Having now deputised for Rooney on two of England’s last three fixtures, it seems certain that Henderson will continue wearing the armband in months to come.
Meanwhile, with Rooney missing from the side, Southgate needed to bring in another midfielder and Jack Wilshere could be that player.
