Jose Mourinho blames Louis Van Gaal for Manchester United losing streak

Manchester United's hat-trick of defeats has heaped a whole load of pressure on Jose Mourinho to ensure his team aren't embarrassed away to League One side Northampton Town in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Red Devils' first defeat of the season at home to Manchester City started the losing streak, to be followed up by a loss away to Feyenoord in the Europa League and 3-1 defeat away to Watford.

It is a far from ideal run of results for a man who, at the beginning of the season, wanted his United side to immediately start competing for the title once again, in his first season in charge.

But, nonetheless, a man like Mourinho always has answers for the reasons behind his side's current dip in form. However, who the Portuguese has reportedly decided to lay the blame on may should be regarded as surprising.

According to The Mirror, Mourinho has told friends that his players are suffering from working with Louis van Gaal for two years - whom the Portuguese enjoyed a good relationship with during their time together at Barcelona.

Mourinho has already relaxed the club's canteen rules, had CCTV at the club's Carrington training ground removed and brought himself back into the club's dressing room on match days, returning what Van Gaal used as his manager's room for the use of referees, all in a bid to relax the strict nature of the Dutchman's regime.

UNITED TOO RIGID

And that's just a few of a number of changes made by the former Chelsea boss, who believes the players are still mentally set up to play in a rigid style, from the reign of the disciplinarian that was Van Gaal.

According to the reports, Mourinho is having to retrain his players to think for themselves and wants his full-backs to push forward, as opposed to what was asked of them under Van Gaal.

Mourinho reportedly feels his players are confused about what is being asked of them, but is confident that, over the coming weeks and months, he can get his players to fully understand what is being asked of them, in the 53-year-old's new set-up.
