Immediately following Barcelona's 2-1 loss to Valencia, Javier Mascherano boldly declared that the Blaugrana would win the rest of their matches this season.
The Catalans have lost three league matches in a row and were knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid, and the mood at the Camp Nou was sombre after the team's latest setback.
Rather than despair, the Argentinian defender entered the locker room and told the squad that they would turn things around.
"We will win all five remaining games," he said with a look of absolute certainty on his face.
Assistant coach Juan Carlos Unzue echoed Mascherano's statement, providing a word of encouragement from the coaching staff.
Many of the Barcelona players felt that Los Che had been fortunate to come away with three points, and that the Blaugrana's luck had run out at the worst possible time.
Thus it was left to the veteran Mascherano, perhaps the best player on the field on Sunday, to try to rally his teammates.
"If we play like this, we will win them all. The defeat against Valencia was unfair."
