Blackpool 0 - 1 Coventry: Coventry add to Blackpool's troubles

Coventry ended a run of four straight defeats with a narrow 1-0 victory over relegation-threatened Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

Blackpool, now winless in seven, went close as on-loan Newcastle midfielder Liam Smith almost notched a superb league debut goal after six minutes, but his 25-yard strike was well saved by Reice Charles-Cook.

The visitors should have been ahead on 13 minutes but the unmarked Chris Stokes headed Jacob Murphy's corner over from six yards.

But Coventry did take the lead after 26 minutes. Blackpool keeper Colin Doyle made a hash of claiming a dropping ball following a corner and it fell to Marc Antoine-Fortune, who lashed home from three yards.

The Sky Blues' dominance continued after half-time and, when substitute Andy Rose picked out Murphy in the area after 63 minutes, the winger was just unable to keep his header on target.

Ex-England international Joe Cole came on for Coventry and almost set up a goal for Adam Armstrong in the 71st minute, but Lloyd Jones blocked the strike from 12 yards.
