Ingolstadt and Stuttgart shared six goals on Saturday to maintain their positions in mid-table with a point.
Moritz Hartmann gave Ingolstadt the lead within five minutes before Lukas Rupp headed wide from three yards out as Stuttgart threatened an immediate reply.
They only had to wait a few more minutes before Filip Kostic beat Ramazan Ozcan inside his near post with a low shot to level with his fifth of the season.
Timo Werner volleyed wide from close range as Stuttgart wasted chance after chance to take the lead, and they were punished when Mathew Leckie put Ingolstadt in front 10 minutes into the second half with a header from close range.
Dario Lezcano doubled Ingolstadt's advantage with a direct free-kick in the 61st minute, before he shot wide of an open goal having lifted the ball past Przemyslaw Tyton.
It was a costly miss as Rupp volleyed Stuttgart back into the game in the 78th minute and a foul by Marvin Matip on Kostic inside the penalty area allowed Stuttgart to level, with Daniel Didavi sending Ozcan the wrong way from the spot.
