Plymouth moved up to eighth as they drew 0-0 with League Two play-off rivals Newport, who edged up to seventh, at Home Park.
Newport keeper Joe Day made two superb saves to deny Plymouth as they threw everything forward in the second half.
Day flapped over a superb 20-yard dipping strike from wing back Tareiq Holmes-Dennis just after half time but made an even better stop to deny playmaker Bobby Reid in the 74th minute.
Home skipper Curtis Nelson began the move with a superb pass to marauding wing-back Kelvin Mellor, whose precision pass split the County defence and found Reid unmarked just inside the box.
His side-foot strike was brilliantly saved by Day, who stretched out his right foot to turn the ball just around the post.
County countered late on with substitute and former Plymouth striker Chris Zebroski firing just wide on the run as he homed in on the Argyle goal in the 85th minute.
Plymouth's 17-goal top scorer Reuben Reid did his best to break the deadlock in a first half in which there was very little between the play-off chasing sides.
