Newport County vs Shrewsbury Town preview - Newport set for Willmott boost

Newport have been handed a huge fitness boost ahead of the visit of Shrewsbury.

Left wing-back Robbie Willmott featured in the Exiles' reserves clash with Plymouth this week and has now been given the green light to return to action having been sidelined with a potentially season-ending foot injury since October.

Rene Howe made a claim to keep his place with a goal in that victory while the likes of Max Porter, Mike Flynn and Yan Klukowski got valuable minutes under their belts.

Newport, just five points behind the Shrews ahead of kick-off, could recall striker Aaron O'Connor and midfielder Lee Minshull in a bid to get back to winning ways after back-to-back defeats.

Shrewsbury may hand a debut to Mikael Mandron after the striker joined from Sunderland.

The 20-year-old has signed a youth loan until the end of the season and will help plug the gap left by injury doubt Andy Mangan.

Mangan was forced off in the 3-2 win over Stevenage and the club are assessing the extent of his knee problem.

James Wesolowski is out for the season with cruciate ligament damage he suffered this month and is waiting to have an operation.
