Newport County - Carlisle preview - Not Joe's Day just yet

Newport's club-record signing may have to start on the bench when they host Carlisle.

Goalkeeper Joe Day made the switch from Peterborough earlier this week after a successful loan spell but 21-year-old Jamie Stephens, who has tasted defeat just once during his recent run in goal, looks set to keep his place.

The Exiles remain without Kevin Feely as he recovers from a finger injury while Robbie Willmott will spent another two months on the sidelines along with long-term absentee Andrew Hughes.

County head into Saturday's clash in fifth place in the League Two table having seen off Cheltenham last weekend.

Carlisle midfielder Brad Potts is hoping to return to the side after missing Sunday's home defeat to York due to a toe injury.

Potts has been playing with the aid of painkilling injections but was forced out of the Boxing Day win at Morecambe.

Boss Keith Curle will assess defender Troy Archibald-Henville (knee) and midfielder Danny Grainger, who has been nursing a back problem, but Gary Dicker (knee), Billy Paynter (Achilles), Alex Marrow (abductor muscle tear) and Steven Rigg (thigh) are expected to miss out again.

On-loan pair Tom Anderson (Burnley) and Connor Brown (Oldham) will play their final games for Carlisle before returning to their parent clubs, while striker Derek Asamoah is hoping to sign a new deal as his current contract expires on January 4.
