Hamburger 2 : 0 Werder Bremen - Hamburg climb above Bremen

Hamburg moved above Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga thanks to a last-gasp 2-0 win in the 101st northern Germany derby.

Artjoms Rudnevs broke the deadlock with just seven minutes remaining before Raphael Wolf scored an own-goal in stoppage time to seal Hamburg's win.

Bremen ended the game with 10 men after Clemens Fritz was shown a second yellow card late on, and they end the weekend in the relegation zone as a result of their defeat at the HSV Arena.

Hamburg started brightly and a header from Heiko Westermann only just cleared the crossbar before debutant Mohamed Gouaida tested Wolf.

Bremen appeared to be happy sitting deep and waiting for their chances on the break, but they were at a premium with Assani Lukimya the only to test Jaroslav Drobny.

The game then lost its way with plenty of tackles flying in and referee Felix Zwayer doing his best to keep control of things.

The stakes were high, though, and it was only natural that neither team really wanted to take a gamble and look for a winner.

Hamburg were given a favour to take the lead with seven minutes remaining as Lukimya headed a throw-in into the danger area where Rudnevs got a leg between the last defender and Wolf to turn the ball in from close range.

Bremen inevitably tried to make amends, but by doing so they left things wide open at the back.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga wasted a glorious chance to seal victory when he flashed his shot across goal, but he then teed up Tolgay Arslan for what had to be the winner in stoppage time.

Without even Wolf to beat, Arslan still sent his shot against the inside of the post and the ball rolled agonisingly along the goal line before Wolf turned it in before it struck the opposite post, and Hamburg's win was sealed.
