Espanyol vs Getafe preview - Vazquez urges Espanyol to kick on

Espanyol winger Lucas Vazquez is hoping the team can build on their encouraging display against Malaga and pick up their first win of the Primera Division season at home to Getafe on Thursday night.

The Barcelona-based club have taken just two points so far, but ended a run of back-to-back defeats with a 2-2 draw at home to Malaga.

In fact they were denied maximum points only by an equaliser three minutes into stoppage time, and Vazquez believes they can take a great deal of positives from that match.

"It is important, we need to win, but it is not the be all and end all," the on-loan winger told a press conference.

"Our performance the other day was the way forward. We need to continue that and keep moving upwards.

"It's too early to look at the table now because everything is very tight," added Vazquez, with Espanyol third from bottom.

"Saturday's match saw an improvement from the team. We are working on a good dynamic. If we continue like this, the wins will come. Games are decided by small margins. We will go for the three points on Thursday."

Espanyol coach Sergio will be without Paco Montanes, who suffered a hamstring injury against Malaga, although forward Christian Stuani appears to have overcome the blow he took to his right leg.

Getafe are just one point better off than Thursday's opponents and have lost their last two league matches, conceding five goals in the process.

Striker Baba Diawara knows what a victory would mean to the team.

He told the club's website: "We must do everything possible to fight, fight to win at Espanyol. That is our goal, our view and no other."
