Javier Saviola is set to take centre stage if he makes his Serie A debut with Hellas Verona in Monday's home game against Palermo.

The Argentinian striker joined the Verona outfit earlier this month from Olympiakos and is eager to start his Italy adventure with a bang.

Verona, who finished 10th in the league last season with 54 points, acquired Saviola after selling Argentinian winger Juan Manuel Iturbe to Roma this summer.

Saviola, a former Barcelona, Real Madrid and Benfica forward, is set to partner ex-Palermo striker Luca Toni in attack.

"I can't wait to play in Serie A," the 32-year-old Saviola said. "It's one of the top leagues in the world and it is full of star players.

"This is a team that wants to grow and continue to improve.

"I believe we have a great squad that can do well this season."

Verona, coached by Andrea Mandorlini, started the campaign with a goalless result at Atalanta.

Rivals Palermo travel to the Marc'Antonio Bentegodi stadium also looking to clinch their first win of the season.

The Sicilian outfit were held to a 1-1 draw by Sampdoria in their first game back in Italy's top flight.

"We have new players and we need time to adapt," Palermo coach Giuseppe Iachini said. "We have worked very hard in the past two weeks and I'm curious to see at what level my team is."

The visitors suffered a blow ahead of the encounter with Argentinian defender Ezequiel Munoz ruled out for two weeks with a left thigh injury.

Moreover, Costa Rica defender Giancarlo Gonzalez is also unavailable with a sprained knee.

Mandorlini will have all of his players available, with the exception of injured midfielder Jacopo Sala.
