CALL-UP: Jack Colback, Calum Chambers, Fabian Delph and Danny Rose may get their debut next week

The former Sunderland player has been handed his first chance in the national squad along with Spurs defender Danny Rose, Villa's Fabian Delph and Arsenal new boy Calum Chambers.

But fans are not happy with the choices.

Some blasted Hodgson, saying he had "lost the plot".

While others just used funny photos to mock the manager's "new generation" of players, particularly Colback.

In a press conference, Hodgson said: "Someone who knows him very well called Jack the "ginger Pirlo" - let's hope that becomes true."

“Colback and Fabian Delph can now step in to take their chance.”

Hodgson's selections come as England prepare for their first two matches since their woeful World Cup display.

They will take on Norway and Switzerland next week with the hopefuls hoping to impress.

And fans may have to bite their tongue if the new selections do impress.
