Brad Jones: That’s for you, sons..
ONE THOUGHT ... Brad Jones remembers his sons after making crucial penalty save from Yakubu

BRAD JONES paid an emotional tribute to his sons on another Premier League night of raw emotion at Ewood Park.

Liverpool’s sub keeper, whose six-year-old boy Luca tragically died of leukaemia in November, pointed to the heavens in his memory after saving a Yakubu penalty with his first touch.

Jones, making his Reds league debut after replacing sent-off Alexander Doni, said: “It has been a difficult 18 months with my son passing away. That was for him. My girlfriend gave birth to a little boy so it has been a big week.”

Liverpool won with a late Andy Carroll goal and Jones now looks certain to face Everton in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley with Doni and Pepe Reina suspended.

Jones, 30, said: “The semi-final is not something I have been thinking about. But it’s a big game and it is about making sure I am focused.”

But he will have confidence after denying the Yak. He added: “What was going through my mind? Many a Friday on the training pitch with Yakubu at Middlesbrough.

“On Fridays we used to practise penalties a lot so I knew his style and luckily made the save.”

Jones’ gesture to his sons was another moving tribute following the support shown to Bolton’s Fabrice Muamba, who is recovering after his cardiac arrest, and Aston Villa’s Stiliyan Petrov, who was recently diagnosed with acute leukaemia.
