David Luiz: I can't wait to get back playing for Chelsea again

DAVID LUIZ cannot wait to pull on a Chelsea shirt again and end the frustration of watching from the sidelines.

The Brazil defender has yet to play a competitive game for new Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas due to a thigh injury.

But he is set to start for Brazil against Ghana at Craven Cottage on Monday after returning to full training.

And Luiz, 24, plans to use the game to show Villas-Boas he is fit to face Sunderland when the Premier League resumes after the international break.

He told SunSport: "I didn't want to get injured, but these things happen in football.

"I'm missing playing in the Premier League so much and I hope I get to play again very soon.

"It's very frustrating when you're hurt because you want to be out there. Everybody wants to work, especially when you love your job.

"Of course, when it's the coach's decision for me not to play it's very frustrating too, but you always want to get better as quickly as possible when you're injured.

"To play in a great team you have to have a great mentality to overcome all the difficulties."

Chelsea are two points adrift of champions Manchester United after three games.

But Luiz insists the Blues are determined to finish above the Red Devils and hold off big-spending Manchester City to reclaim the title.

He added: "Chelsea are a great team and always enter every competition to win.

"I'm sure we're going to do our very best to win the championship back from Manchester United."

Villas-Boas has wasted little time in stamping his mark on the squad by bringing in Romelu Lukaku, Juan Mata, Oriol Romeu, Raul Meireles and Thibaud Courtois.

Keeper Courtois is on a season-long loan in Spain with Atletico Madrid but Luiz is confident his other new team-mates will give Chelsea the boost they need after finishing last season empty-handed.

He said: "They are great players, excellent players. If Chelsea called on these players, it's because the club know they're valuable and talented.

"I just hope they can help us become stronger. It's always important to have good players to help you."

Luiz is also adamant Brazil will continue to improve as they build towards hosting the 2014 World Cup.

And he believes more of his international team-mates will follow him to England.

The centre-back added: "The future is going to reflect the present as all the players are doing a great job.

"we're just going to get better and better the more we play together. The players are already great, so it's going to be perfect.

"I hope we see more Brazilians coming to England and I hope they are as lucky as I have been.

"For me, I am playing in the best and greatest league in the world. It is the most difficult and has great matches.

"I am very happy to play in the Premier League and I'm sure many people would agree with me.

"It was a natural thing for me to come to England because Chelsea made sure I only had to worry about playing football.

"Things happened naturally and I've adapted totally. Everything has been very good and individually the move has been great for me."

As for playing on home soil at the World Cup, Luiz believes the advantage will ensure Brazil lift the famous gold trophy for an incredible SIXTH time.

He said: "We'll have the support of absolutely everyone.

"Everybody in Brazil loves football so it will be one of the greatest things we will experience as players."
