Turkey's Trabzonspor gets Benfica in Champs League
Posted Friday, July 15, 2011 by YAHOO Sport
Turkish league runner-up Trabzonspor drew Portugal’s Benfica on Friday in the Champions League third qualifying round.
Trabzonspor could yet be awarded the 2010-11 Turkish title if champion Fenerbahce is stripped of the trophy in a match-fixing scandal.
However, the probe isn’t being resolved in time to award Trabzonspor direct entry to the lucrative 32-team Champions League group stage.
In other matchups set Friday, Dynamo Kyiv of Ukraine will face Russia’s Rubin Kazan, and Dutch club FC Twente was paired with Romania’s Vaslui.
Twente is scheduled to play the home leg first on July 26-27 at another venue after construction works collapsed at its stadium this month, killing two people.
