Getafe put their derby defeat to Real Madrid behind them as a 2-0 victory over Osasuna boosted their chances of avoiding relegation from the Primera Division.

A punishing 4-0 loss to Madrid on Tuesday had looked ominous for Getafe, yet they ensured they will begin the final round of matches outside the bottom three thanks to an own-goal from Miguel Flano and a late clincher by Pedro Rios.

It was just as well for Getafe that they gathered all three points, given their rivals Real Zaragoza won 1-0 against Espanyol, while Deportivo La Coruna held Barcelona to a goalless draw in the Nou Camp.

Coach Michel's side hold a one-point advantage over third-bottom Zaragoza, and are level on points with Deportivo ahead of their final game of the campaign, a tricky trip to fellow strugglers Real Sociedad, who are one point better off than Getafe and not safe yet.

The same degree of vulnerability applies to Osasuna, two points above the drop zone ahead of a final-weekend fixture against Villarreal.

Getafe just about deserved their victory although there were some worrying late moments.

They began brightly enough and Manu del Moral forced Ricardo to tip over his 25-yard shot just before the half-hour mark.

With the interval approaching, Getafe won a corner on the right and Victor Sanchez's delivery was met by a volley from Adrian Colunga which Lopez had to parry away.

The opening goal came in the 65th minute when Daniel Parejo crossed and Flano tucked the ball past Ricardo with his left foot from six yards.

His blushes were almost spared by veteran striker Walter Pandiani who was presented with two great chances in the closing 10 minutes.

He headed the first against the bar from 12 yards, and then from similar range another header drew a desperate touch to safety by goalkeeper Oscar Ustari.

Getafe had relied on their luck to stay ahead and then doubled their lead in stoppage-time when Parejo played in Rios and he drilled a shot into the bottom right corner from 12 yards.
