RYAN SHAWCROSS insists he has not changed his game one bit since breaking Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey’s leg.
That red-card horror tackle, which left Welshman Ramsey out of football for almost a year, led to Ryan Shawcross being branded a thug by the Gunners.
Yet, despite the fall-out surrounding the incident back in February 2010, the Stoke skipper says he is still making the same sort of challenges week in, week out.
Ahead of today’s Wembley clash with Bolton, Shawcross, 23, said: “I haven’t changed my game. I’ve made similar tackles and won the ball. It was just the case that on that tackle I missed the ball.
“The manager says you should stay on your feet – but sometimes you get caught up in the game and go flying in.”
Meanwhile, the former Manchester United trainee admits he faced a battle to win over Stoke fans after being made captain at the start of the season.
The Potters faithful reckoned Shawcross, only 22 at the time, was far too young to lead their club in the Premier League.
However, with Stoke on course to secure top-flight status for a third consecutive season and just one step from their first-ever FA Cup Final, he appears to have silenced the doubters.
Shawcross, who became a father for the second time on Wednesday, said: “To some of the fans it wasn’t the right decision. They were against it because of my age.
“I‘m the youngest player in the team but the manager makes the decisions and I think I‘ve done a good job.
“I’m not scared if someone’s not doing theirs. I will have a go at them. Off the pitch I’m quiet but on the pitch I’m a lot more aggressive.”
