Relegation-threatened Malaga and Deportivo La Coruna shared a mutually unsatisfactory goalless draw at La Rosaleda, with a point not enough to ease either side's anxieties.

Hosts Malaga remain second bottom, level with Hercules on 29 points, while Deportivo are just five points and two places shy of the drop zone on 34.

Both were hoping for a momentum-shifting win but it is Malaga who will consider it an opportunity missed as Depor played the entire second half a man down following Sanabria Laure's red card on half-time.

Duarte Jesus Gamez was the first player to unsuccessfully try his luck on goal, spraying a shot from 25 yards wide in only the third minute.

Depor goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia was forced to flick the ball over the crossbar soon after when Duda's inswinging corner briefly threatened to squirm into the net.

Duda's delivery again caused problems after 20 minutes when he located Jose Salomon Rondon in the penalty area.

The striker should have buried his header from six yards but instead put it wide of the post.

Duda and Rondon combined again three minutes later but the result was the same.

Malaga were dominant at this stage and Rondon was an increasingly central figure, again finding room to shoot and again missing the target.

Andres Guardado returned fire with a rare Depor shot, flashing wide from the edge of the area.

Laure was shown a yellow card for fouling Sebastian Fernandez after 38 minutes and just seven minutes later he picked up a second, making his side's task even harder.

After the interval Depor dug in well, though, and Malaga struggled to match their first-half productivity.

With an hour gone, Depor were even looking livelier, Xisco and Guardado getting shots away on the counter.

Sixteen minutes remained when Enzo Maresca forced another save out of Aranzubia, while Guardado and Rondon traded 18-yard strikes at either end of the pitch.

Neither side were able to craft a goal, with Depor's rearguard rarely in danger of being breached despite their numerical disadvantage.
