Brescia picked up a 1-1 draw at Cagliari in their quest for Serie A survival but finished the game with striker Eder and coach Giuseppe Iachini seeing red.

Andrea Cossu gave Cagliari a first-half lead at Stadio Sant'Elia, but Andrea Caracciolo levelled the scores after the break.

In the closing stages Eder went to ground cheaply inside the Cagliari penalty area and picked up a second yellow card. Iachini was not happy with the outcome - and his protests brought another red card.

The result leaves Brescia second from bottom, two points adrift of safety, while the Sardinians maintain their place in the top half.

Robert Acquafresca had the game's first chance - but Cagliari's on-loan Genoa striker saw his fifth minute header go narrowly over the bar.

Brescia threatened 10 minutes later through Marco Zambelli, whose effort went just wide.

However, the home side took the lead in the 22nd minute. Brescia goalkeeper Michele Arcari missed a chance to clear the danger and Andrea Cossu rounded him and netted from close range.

Brescia striker Alessandro Diamanti shot wide in the 32nd minute and three minutes later Arcari saved an Acquafresca volley at the other end.

Diamanti saw a 30-yard shot blocked by Michael Agazzi four minutes before the interval but Cagliari finished the half on top with Davide Biondini bringing a good save out of Arcari and Andrea Lazzari shooting narrowly over from long-range.

Cossu went close from a corner four minutes after the restart, before Perparim Hatemaj shot narrowly over for Brescia four minutes later, after rounding two defenders.

Cristiano Zanetti was off target with a curling 25-yard effort for the visitors in the 57th minute.

However, four minutes later they were level - Diamanti supplying the perfect cross for Caracciolo to head home from close range.

Cossu brought a 73rd-minute save out of Arcari, then crossed well for Acquafresca - but again the goalkeeper saved.

Caracciolo shot narrowly over in the 83rd minute and four minutes later Arcari, seemingly on a mission to make up for his error with Cagliari's goal, made a stunning save to deny Biondini.

An end-to-end encounter finished with Brescia tempers frayed, with Brazilian striker Eder and Iachini seeing red for the Lombardy side.
