MANCHESTER UNITED legend Peter Schmeichel last night told Sir Alex Ferguson: Sell Wayne Rooney to Real Madrid for £60million.

The Old Trafford goalkeeping great believes Rooney – currently serving a two-match ban for swearing on TV – would be better off playing abroad.

“I think it would be good for Rooney to get away,” Schmeichel said. “It would be good for him to play for another club – like Real Madrid, under Jose Mourinho.

‘‘Mourinho is someone who could handle him and get the best out of him.

“It is painful to say that about the best player United have – but he is better off trying something new.

“United will probably not sell him to another English club but a change of scenery would help.”
