I have a say

HARRY REDKNAPP last night opened the door for David Beckham to join Tottenham.

The Spurs chief said: "We'll contact the LA Galaxy to see if they will let him go out on loan Turn to and if David is up for a three-month deal then we will definitely be interested.

"I'm sure he can still do a great job at the top level, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

"He would be a fantastic player to have here - and he wouldn't be coming just to sell some shirts."

Becks, 35, wants to play for a top European club during the MLS close-season to keep alive his dreams of an England recall.

And Redknapp believes the former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar could be the man to help him win the title.

The Spurs boss added: "He's a proper spot-on professional who would be a fantastic influence on everyone at the club.

"I'm not in a position where I need to get anyone in the transfer window. But I read Theo Walcott saying how he set a real example for him when he was training at Arsenal last year and you need people like that around your club."

Spurs can reclaim fourth place from Chelsea by beating Fulham at White Hart Lane today.

Redknapp added: "We are one of five teams going for the title and the owner Daniel Levy wants Champions League football again next season. He knows how tight it is up there so if I can come up with someone special to make a difference, I'm sure the owner would not hesitate to go for it."

Beckham, who has had two loan spells at AC Milan, hinted he would never play for another English team after 11 years at United.

But Redknapp is convinced he can persuade the Leytonstone-born superstar to return to the club where he once trained as a schoolkid.

Beckham and his wife Victoria own a mansion 20 minutes from Spurs' Chigwell training ground and his grandfather was a Spurs fan.

Redknapp added: "It tells you everything about him that he wants to play football in the freezing cold when he could spend the next three months relaxing by his pool.

"And he's not coming back for the money, that's for sure. He's coming back because he still has a passion for the game.

"He's 35 but it's not as if he's suddenly lost his blistering pace because he didn't have pace when he was 17.

"What he does have is a great football brain.

"He would be a fantastic example for Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale with his crossing and his delivery."

If Becks did make the move he would come up against his old United side at the Lane on January 16.
