Manchester United Striker Wayne Rooney Is Doubtful Over World Cup Place

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of the Premier League title run-in due to a groin injury, and concerns are mounting that the England ace's World Cup place is hanging in the balance.

According to the Sunday Mirror Sport, the injuries occurred in United’s Champions League exit against Bayern Munich, while Rooney then exacerbated the problem during the Manchester derby.

Rooney's absence from South Africa would deliver a huge blow to Fabio Capello, as the England boss has built a team around his star forward.
Rooney missed the clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, which saw United go back to the top of the table, and will not feature in the Red Devil's remaining fixtures.

“Wayne [Rooney] did his groin on Thursday," Sir Alex Ferguson told a press conference.

“We were doing simple possession exercises and he tweaked his groin. We got him out training on Friday and he tried it, but it wasn’t good enough.

“We have to look at maybe two or three weeks.”
