Damage is not as serious as the club thought
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, who was injured his ankle in a 2-1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, could return to the field in two weeks time.
United have revealed that the England international has suffered just minor ligament damage in his ankle, not a broken bone, as the club previously feared.
“We're pleased to report that Wayne has not suffered a fracture. The scan revealed only minor ligament damage,” a club spokesman told the Daily Mail.
Rooney was capable of walk without his protective cast around his injured ankle, and United is optimistic that his treatment is going well.
While the Englishman will miss Saturday’s critical game Premier League match against Chelsea and the second leg of United’s Champions League tie with Bayern, Rooney could be back in time to help his team in the last few games of the season.
