BRISBANE, Australia (AP)—Australia, Kuwait and Jordan became the final teams to qualify for next year’s Asian Cup in Qatar on Wednesday.
Australia beat Indonesia 1-0 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane to top Group B and advance with Kuwait, which drew 0-0 at Oman at Sultan Qaboos Complex stadium in Muscat.
Jordan defeated Singapore 2-1 at King Abdullah International stadium in Amman to finish second in Group E behind Iran.
Mark Milligan’s goal in the 42nd minute was a just reward after Australia had 72 percent of possession and outshot Indonesia by 22 to 3.
Milligan, a Japan-based former Sydney FC defender, shouldered a cross on to the crossbar before swiveling on a tight angle to hammer the ball into goalkeeper Markus Harison Rihihina, deflecting it into the net.
Anas Bani Yaseen scored the winning goal in the 61st minute after teammate Odai Al Saify’s ninth-minute opener was canceled out by Singapore’s Noh Alam Shah in the 13th.
