Queretaro was minutes away from the win but the 8 added minutes of stoppage time was golden for Santos.

Queretaro had three points in the bag in the 95th minute of their encounter against Santos. Referee Marco Antonio Rodriguez’s extra time was enough for Santos to tie the game 1-1 in the end. The game extended out to the 98th minute and the criticism rained over the referee.

Santos extends their unbeaten streak to five with the tie against Queretaro.

First Half

Queretaro looked to be in control to start the game but they did very little with their possession of the ball.

The first shot on goal would not come until the 11th minute. Emilio Lopez got the ball inside the box but could not get a comfortable shot off as his weak attempt ended up in the hands of Oswaldo Sanchez.

Santos saw a good chance in the 13th minute. Oribe Peralta stole the ball away from a Queretaro defender and got a quick shot off. Carlos Bossio was well alert and controlled the ball despite his teammate’s horrible error.

The game started to open up for both sides.

Darwin Quintero had the first one for Santos but failed to convert in the 20th minute. Quintero was face to face with Bossio as he elected to kick the ball with the out side of his boot. The shot opened up too much for the Colombian as he saw the first one of the day slip away.

Santos slowly took over the game but still could not find the finishing touch.

Oribe Peralta was very active for Santos and almost opened his account in the 23rd minute. Peralta did well to get inside the box and have a shot on goal. When it came to finishing Peralta once again missed this time with his shot going wide.

Peralta would have the last chance of the half for Santos. Peralta tried a difficult shot while the ball was in the air but his attempt went over the bar.

The half ended in a 0-0 tie.

Second Half

Queretaro came out more aggressive to start the second half.

Emilio Lopez tried his luck in the 49th minute with a blistering shot but Sanchez handled it with out any problems.

Adrian Romero also had a good chance in the 50th minute. Romero created some space inside the box and had a go. His shot went just over the bar as he seemed to injure himself after the attempt.

Queretaro had Santos pinned back as they shot at will. Hector “El Pirata” Castro had a great low driven shot that went just wide of the mark in the 60th minute.

The score would finally open up in the 77th minute in favor of Queretaro. Julio Laffatigue sent in a header off a corner. Oswaldo Sanchez sent the ball out but it landed in front of Laffatigue who buried it the second time.

Just five minutes after scoring Laffatigue was sent off after he earned his second yellow.

Santos barely had anything going on offense but Peralta still tried his luck. Peralta tried a bicycle kick in the 84th minute that was performed excellently but had very little power and direction.

Santos was given a lifeline after the game was extended well beyond the 5 extra minute. Uriel Alvarez beat Bossio with a header that was set up by Peralta. Santos tied the game, 1-1 and Marco Antonio Rodriguez ended the game shortly after.
